Exodus 20:1-17
What if the Ten Commandments are less a list of rules and more an invitation into a deeper relationship with God? That is exactly the lens through which we explore Exodus 20 in this message. Before God gives a single commandment, He identifies Himself as the one who rescued His people from slavery. That sequence matters enormously. Relationship comes before obedience. God does not say, follow my rules and then I will care for you. He says, I have already rescued you, and now here is how we live together. The first four commandments, which focus on how we love and relate to God, reveal something profound: God does not want to be merely one priority among many in our lives. He wants to be the very source from which our lives flow. We are challenged to ask ourselves honest questions. What are we quietly looking to for joy, strength, or meaning that only God can truly provide? Are we tempted to reshape God into a version that is more convenient or comfortable for us? How well do we bear His name in our daily lives? These are not abstract theological puzzles. They are deeply personal questions that cut to the heart of our faith journey and call us toward a more authentic, wholehearted relationship with the living God.
