Bibles and Bikes: Helping the Gospel Travel Farther

Christian Mission Aid (CMA) is a cross-denominational Christian ministry serving communities in Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan. Its mission is both deeply spiritual and profoundly practical: to make Christ known while helping alleviate poverty and suffering. CMA equips local pastors and church leaders, mentors children and youth, strengthens communities, and provides aid to people affected by conflict, disaster, hunger, and disease.

At the heart of CMA’s work is a commitment to equip local Christians for ministry within their own communities. Many pastors in rural East Africa serve congregations scattered across large areas, often traveling long distances on foot through difficult terrain. Many also minister with limited access to theological education, Bibles, and other essential resources.
This is why Covenant Church supports CMA’s Bibles and Bikes ministry.

CMA provides printed Bibles in local languages so pastors and congregations can read and study God’s Word. It also distributes solar-powered audio Bibles, enabling people who cannot read to hear the New Testament in their own language. These resources do more than fill a shelf—they help pastors teach, believers grow, and new communities encounter the good news of Jesus Christ.

Bicycles and motorcycles make that ministry mobile. A bicycle can greatly increase the number of villages and families a pastor is able to visit. A motorcycle can help a church leader travel even farther to preach, teach, disciple believers, care for congregations, and reach communities where Christian ministry is limited.

CMA’s most recent annual report shows the tangible fruit of this work. During the year, the ministry distributed 515 printed Bibles and 77 audio Bibles to pastors and churches. It also provided 27 bicycles and 20 motorcycles to rural pastors. CMA trained 123 pastors and church leaders, while its Jesus Film ministry shared the gospel with approximately 9,800 people in and around Juba, South Sudan.

These numbers represent far more than supplies or transportation. Each Bible places God’s Word into someone’s hands. Each bicycle or motorcycle helps a faithful pastor carry that Word into another village, home, congregation, or community.
