Winter Bible Study: Stories Jesus Told

Stories Jesus Told: A Five-Week Study of the Parables

Jesus often taught through stories—simple, everyday scenes drawn from fields and villages, family life and work. Yet these stories, which we call parables, carried profound truth about God, the Kingdom, and what it means to live as a disciple.

This winter, beginning January 15, we invite you to join us for a five-week Bible study titled Stories Jesus Told: A Study of the Parables. Each session will begin at 6:00 PM and will offer a thoughtful, engaging exploration of Jesus’ teaching through story.

Each week, we will begin by exploring the historical, cultural, and geographical background of the parable. Understanding Jesus’ world helps us hear His words as His original listeners would have heard them. From there, we will engage in a close reading of the biblical text, paying attention to key words, phrases, and details that often shape the meaning more than we realize.

As the study unfolds, we will reflect on what each parable teaches about the heart of God, the nature of the Kingdom, and the shape of faithful discipleship. Finally, we will ask how these ancient stories speak into our lives today—shaping how we see God, how we see others, and how we live as followers of Jesus in the world.

Each evening will also include time for small-group conversation. From 6:45 to 7:15 PM, groups will gather for discussion, prayer, and the sharing of deep practice commitments—simple, intentional ways of living out what we are learning together during the week ahead.

Over five weeks, we will focus on five powerful parables:
  • Why Jesus taught in parables and how they invite deeper listening
  • The Parable of the Sower and the formation of the heart
  • The Good Samaritan and the meaning of loving our neighbor
  • The Prodigal Son and the restoring grace of the Father
  • The Workers in the Vineyard and the upside-down economy of God’s grace

Whether you are new to Bible study or have been walking with Christ for many years, this study offers an opportunity to grow in understanding, deepen your faith, and be shaped more fully as a disciple of Jesus.

We invite you to come, listen, learn, and journey together as we rediscover the transforming power of the stories Jesus told.
