Small Group Leader Training

Why You Should Consider Leading a Deep Practice Discipleship Group

At Covenant, we believe that discipleship is not just about knowing about Jesus but about learning to live like Jesus. That’s where our Deep Practice Discipleship Groups come in. These groups are designed to be more than a weekly Bible study. They are places where people reflect, practice, and grow—together—as bold followers of Jesus.

Why Small Groups Matter

The early church grew through small gatherings of believers who shared meals, studied the Scriptures, prayed, and lived life together (Acts 2:42–47). In those settings, people didn’t just hear the Word—they practiced it. They encouraged one another, held each other accountable, and lived out their faith in everyday life.

Our Deep Practice Groups continue that tradition. They provide a space where disciples can move from hearing to doing, from learning to living.

The Joy of Leading
Becoming a small group leader is not about having all the answers. It’s about creating a space where people can encounter Jesus in real and practical ways. It’s about walking with others as they take steps of faith, wrestle with questions, and discover how to follow Christ more deeply.

Leading a group is fulfilling because you get to see lives transformed. You’ll witness people grow in courage, faith, and love. You’ll share in their victories and help them learn through their struggles. And as you lead, you’ll find your own faith deepening as well.

What Groups Will Do
Each Deep Practice Group follows a rhythm:
  • Reflecting on last week’s discipleship commitment
  • Reviewing and discussing the Sunday sermon
  • Digging deeper with thoughtful questions (using tools like Bloom’s Taxonomy to go from knowledge to real-life application)
  • Exploring a related Bible story through storying (hearing, retelling, and discussing together)
  • Choosing a personal discipleship practice for the coming week
  • Closing with prayer and encouragement

It’s a simple but powerful format that helps faith move from the head to the heart—and into daily life.

Training and Support

You won’t be leading alone. Every small group leader will receive training and ongoing support. We’ll equip you with:
  • The principles of Deep Practice discipleship
  • Skills for guiding discussion and encouraging participation
  • Best practices for fostering accountability and community
  • Practical resources, weekly guides, and coaching as you lead

Training sessions will be offered each Wednesday, beginning August 27 through September 24. You can choose to attend either the 10:00 am morning session or the 6:00 pm evening session, whichever best fits your schedule.
