Mark 1:16-20
What does it truly mean to follow Jesus? In this exploration of Mark 1:16-20, we are drawn into one of the most striking moments in all of Scripture: the calling of the first disciples. What makes this passage so compelling is not just that these fishermen dropped their nets and walked away, but that Jesus came to them first. He did not wait for them to seek him out, to clean up their lives, or to prove themselves worthy. He extended the invitation before they were ready. That is grace in its purest form, and it is the same grace extended to each of us. As we unpack this passage together, we discover that following Jesus is not a single dramatic moment but a daily rhythm built around three movements: leaving, learning, and living. The call to leave is not always a call away from bad things. Sometimes, like these fishermen, we are called to leave good things, stable things, familiar things, in order to move closer to what God has for us. That tension is real, and this message meets us right in the middle of it.
