What if understanding the world of Jesus could change the way you hear His words?
When we read the Gospels, it’s easy to hear Jesus through the lens of our own time and place. His teachings can become familiar—comforting, even—but sometimes distant from the realities of everyday life. Yet Jesus did not speak in abstract ideas. He spoke into a real world—one shaped by Roman rule, Jewish expectation, village life, and deeply held beliefs about God and His Kingdom.

This spring, we invite you to step into that world.

Beginning this Thursday at 6:30 PM, we will gather for a six-week Bible study titled Learning the Way of the Kingdom. Together, we will explore key teachings of Jesus—learning to see and hear them as His first followers did.

Each week, we will focus on a specific passage from the Gospels:

• Matthew 4:12–17 — “The Kingdom Is Near”
  Jesus announces the arrival of God’s Kingdom and calls people to reorient their lives around it.
• Matthew 5:1–12 — The Beatitudes
  Jesus redefines what it means to be blessed, turning the values of the world upside down.
• Luke 5:27–32 — Eating with Sinners
  A simple meal becomes a powerful picture of grace, invitation, and who belongs at the table.
• Mark 1:21–34 — Authority and Healing
  Jesus demonstrates the authority of the Kingdom through teaching, healing, and freedom.
• Matthew 5:38–48 — Loving Your Enemies
  Jesus calls His followers beyond retaliation into a radical, transformative love.
• Mark 10:32–45 — The Way of the Cross
  Jesus redefines greatness through humility, service, and self-giving love.

Each session will begin by exploring the historical, cultural, and geographical background of the text. As we come to understand the world Jesus was speaking into, His words begin to take on new depth and clarity.

From there, we will engage in a close reading of Scripture, paying attention to key words and phrases, before reflecting on what the passage reveals about the nature of God’s Kingdom and the life of a disciple.

But this study is not only about understanding—it is about formation.  Each evening will also include time for small-group conversation, where we will reflect together, pray, and share simple, intentional deep practice commitments—ways of living out what we are learning in the week ahead.

This study is for anyone who wants to grow—whether you are new to Scripture or have been walking with Christ for many years. If you’ve ever wanted to better understand what Jesus meant—and how His teaching speaks into your life today—this is a space to explore, learn, and be formed together.

Good Friday stands at the center of our faith as the most solemn and sacred day of the Christian year. It is the day we remember the suffering, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ—the Son of God who gave Himself fully for the life of the world.
This is not a day we rush past.

It is a day to slow down… to listen… and to remember.

Through the reading of Scripture, meaningful music, and times of quiet reflection, we will walk together through the final moments of Jesus’ earthly life. We will hear again the story of His betrayal, His suffering, and His journey to the cross. We will stand at the foot of that cross and consider what it means.

On Good Friday, we are invited to face the depth of human brokenness—and at the same time, the even greater depth of God’s love.

The cross reveals both.

It reveals the weight of sin and the cost of redemption.
It reveals the seriousness of what separates us from God—and the lengths to which God has gone to bring us back.

And in the silence of this service, we are given space to reflect personally:

Where do we see ourselves in this story?
What does the cross mean for our lives today?
What has Christ done—and what does that call forth from us?

This sacred gathering prepares our hearts not only to understand the cross more deeply, but to receive it more fully. It invites us into a quiet, honest encounter with the love of Christ—a love poured out, even unto death.

Maundy Thursday invites us to step into one of the most sacred moments of Holy Week—the night Jesus gathered with His disciples in the upper room, shared a meal, and offered a new command: to love one another as He has loved us.

It is a night marked by humility, intimacy, and deep meaning. A night where bread is broken, words are spoken, and hearts are stirred.

This year, our focus will center on the theme of brokenness—the reality we all carry in different ways. We come with lives that are not whole, with burdens, wounds, and places in need of grace. And yet, it is in this very place that Christ meets us.

In the breaking of the bread, we remember that our broken lives find healing in the broken body of Jesus. What feels fractured is not beyond His reach. What feels incomplete is not beyond His restoration.

Through Scripture, meaningful music, and the celebration of Holy Communion, we will enter into a quiet and reflective space—one that allows us to remember, to receive, and to prepare our hearts for the solemn journey of Good Friday.

This is not simply a service to attend, but a moment to encounter the grace of Christ in a personal and meaningful way.

Children and families are invited to join us for a joyful afternoon at Covenant Church’s Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 PM. This fun community event is always filled with excitement as children search for colorful eggs hidden around the church grounds.

Kids will enjoy the thrill of the hunt as they gather eggs and celebrate the joy of the Easter season together with friends and family. There will also be a special egg hunt area for children who have allergies or cannot receive candy, ensuring that every child can safely participate and enjoy the fun.

In addition to the egg hunt, each child will have the opportunity to create their own set of “Resurrection Eggs.” As they assemble their eggs, children will learn the story of the passion and resurrection of Jesus in a simple and meaningful way. These eggs become a wonderful take-home activity that allows families to revisit and share the Easter story together.

This event is a great way for children to enjoy the fun of an egg hunt while also discovering the deeper meaning of Easter.

What might happen if we slowed down long enough to remember who we are?
On May 8–9, 2026, the people of Covenant Church will gather at Agape’ Wilderness Retreat Center for a special church retreat designed to help us rediscover and deepen what makes Covenant… Covenant.

This will be more than simply getting away for a day. It will be an intentional time of worship, reflection, conversation, and vision as we step away from our normal routines and focus on the heart of who we are as a church and the calling God has placed before us.
Throughout the retreat we will explore the core commitments that shape the life of

Covenant Church:

• Jesus as our Center
• Scripture as our Source
• Faith as our Focus
• Worship as our Passion
• Love as our Life
• People as our Point
• Generosity as our Norm

These are not simply ideas or slogans. They are anchors that help guide how we live, serve, and follow Christ together.

The retreat will include engaging teaching sessions, meaningful worship, small group conversation, and time to enjoy fellowship together. Participants will also have the opportunity to stay overnight at the retreat center and enjoy three meals during the retreat, all for $85.50 per person.

Our hope is that this time together will strengthen our unity as a church and help us continue becoming the kind of church that faithfully serves LaGrange and the surrounding community—a church rooted deeply in Christ and sent into the world with His love.

Covenant Church has been blessed with a beautiful gift—twelve acres of land that surround our church property. For some time, our Outreach Team has been praying and thinking about how that space might become more than open land. What if it could become a place where ministry, hospitality, and community life come together?

To begin exploring that possibility, the Outreach Team is hosting a Park Project Vision Meeting on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 PM. This gathering will be a chance to hear about an exciting idea the team has been considering and to share your own thoughts as we dream together about the future.

The vision being explored is the possibility of using available grant funding to develop a portion of our land into a community park—a welcoming space where families, children, and neighbors from across LaGrange could gather. More than simply a recreational space, the hope is that it would become a ministry and outreach environment, where relationships can be formed and where the love of Christ can be shared naturally within our community.

Imagine a place where people from our town regularly gather, where conversations begin, friendships form, and where Covenant Church has opportunities to engage with our neighbors in meaningful ways.

This meeting will be a time to learn more about the idea, ask questions, offer input, and help shape the vision as we consider what God might do through this opportunity.

Get ready for an exciting week of discovery at Vacation Bible School: Rainforest Falls! This summer, Covenant Church will transform into a vibrant rainforest as children explore the wonder and character of God through hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences.
Rainforest Falls VBS will take place July 13–17 from 6:00–8:30 PM each evening.
Throughout the week, kids will step into an immersive environment filled with Bible adventures, energetic songs, creative activities, and fun games that bring the message of Scripture to life.

At Rainforest Falls, children will explore the nature of God through experiences they can see, hear, and touch. Each evening will include engaging Bible stories, hands-on science experiments, team-building games, memorable music, and tasty treats. Because the activities are interactive, kids might get a little messy—so plan to send them in play clothes and sturdy shoes.

One of the highlights of the week will be helping children learn to notice “God Sightings®”—recognizing the ways God is present and at work in everyday life. Our prayer is that the lessons of the week will help children grow in faith and learn to see God’s goodness all around them.

Registration for the week will open in early May. Families will be able to sign up through the event listed on Friday, July 17, which will register children for the entire week of VBS.

Vacation Bible School is one of the most joyful weeks of the year at Covenant Church, and we look forward to welcoming children from our church and community. Be watching for registration details and opportunities to volunteer as we prepare for this exciting week!

We’ve rescheduled the MLK Community Worship Service to Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 pm.
This special gathering, originally planned for January, gives us a meaningful opportunity to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and to reflect on how his dream continues to call us—as followers of Jesus—to unity, compassion, and faithful witness in our community.

The service will be a warm, intergenerational time of worship, hosted together with Centennial Missionary Baptist Church and LaGrange Christian Church. Expect uplifting music, sacred dance, a special children’s message, and a biblical reflection on unity and shared mission.

Each day during Holy Week, churches from across our community will gather for a brief midday worship service at LaGrange Christian Church. These services will feature the preaching of local pastors as we reflect on the last words of Christ from the cross.

Following each service, a light lunch will be provided as an opportunity for fellowship. Covenant Church will be providing the lunch on Monday.

Pastor William will also be participating in the series and will preach at the Friday service.

These gatherings are a meaningful expression of unity among the churches of our community as we focus together on the significance of the cross.

Children and families are invited to join us for a fun evening at Fantastic Friday: Movie Night with Covenant Children’s Ministry.

Fantastic Friday will take place on Friday, March 27, from 6:00–8:00 PM. This special event is open to children ages 3 through 5th grade (all children must be potty trained). It will be a relaxed evening where kids can enjoy a great movie together in a welcoming and safe environment.

In addition to the movie, children will receive a light snack and have the opportunity to spend time with friends while enjoying a fun night at church. Fantastic Friday events are designed to give kids a joyful experience at church while building friendships and connections within our children’s ministry.

Parents can register their children on the church website or through the Covenant Church app.

Youth ministry at Covenant is entering an exciting new rhythm this spring.

Beginning March 8, the youth group will meet on Sunday afternoons from 4:00–5:30 PM (except where noted). Our goal is to create a balanced environment where students can build friendships, grow in their faith, and have fun together.

Each month will include:
• Two Sundays of hangout and small group time
• One Sunday deep dive into a Bible passage or important topic
• One Sunday outing or service project

Throughout the coming months, students will also begin exploring the Gospel of Luke, discovering how the life and teaching of Jesus connect with the challenges and questions young people face today.

Ash Wednesday Worship Service

We invite you to join us at Covenant Church as we begin the season of Lent with a meaningful Ash Wednesday service. This will be a short and reflective time of worship, including prayer, the singing of hymns, the reading of Scripture, and the imposition of ashes.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of a forty-day journey toward Easter. It is a time to pause, to remember our need for God’s grace, and to turn our hearts again toward Christ. We hope you will gather with us as we enter this sacred season together.

We are excited to share that registration for the 2026–2027 school year at Covenant Preschool & Mother’s Day Out is officially open!

At Covenant Preschool, we offer a high-quality, loving Christian environment where children can begin their educational journey with confidence and joy. Our program focuses not only on ABCs and counting but also on social development, interactive learning, Bible lessons, prayer, and discovering that Jesus loves them. Our preschool is a licensed, 4-star program through the state’s Stars system, and each week more than 50 children from our community join us to learn and flourish.

Classes are available for toddlers through Pre-K with morning and afternoon sessions to fit the needs of families. Registration opened on February 1, and placements are made on a first-come, first-served basis with a non-refundable registration fee to secure your child’s spot.

Mission trips have a way of taking a diverse group of people, pushing them out of their comfort zones, and creating space for God to work beyond our usual attempts to manage and control outcomes.

Our team traveled to Costa Rica with a twofold mission: to begin construction on a parsonage in Santa Rosa and to lead VBS and women’s programs in four local churches. Pastor Alejandro and his family are currently living in the fellowship hall of their church — not ideal for them and not ideal for the congregation. Our goal was to help lay a foundation, both literally and spiritually.

Before a shovel hit the ground, we were reminded what this is really about.

On our first Sunday, we worshiped in Pital. Few of them spoke English, and few of us spoke Spanish. And yet, I have never been hugged and loved on by so many strangers in my life. We recognized some of the songs and tried to sing along — though it is surprisingly difficult to remember English lyrics while hearing them in Spanish. The language barrier dissolved quickly in the presence of God. Worship does that.

Meanwhile, our seasoned construction crew went to work. Trenches were cleared. Massive boulders were moved. Concrete was mixed and poured. Rebar was bent and laid into place. A few snakes objected to the clearing of brush, but they were firmly encouraged to relocate. Progress was steady, hard-earned, and meaningful.

While construction advanced, the women’s and children’s ministries flourished. The women and children were deeply grateful for items that many in the United States might simply discard. Games were played. Dances were learned. Simple bread was shared. Colorful jewelry was crafted. Relationships formed quickly and deeply.

But the crowning moment of the trip came in an unexpected way.

The church in Santa Rosa invited us to dinner — the first time in all our years of serving there that anyone had cooked for us. They decorated the church with fairy lights and set a long table so we could dine together as one body. The meal — marinated pork, rice, beans, and pico — was easily the best meal of the week. Not because of the food alone, but because of the love with which it was given.

As I reflect on that evening, I still find tears in my eyes. In that simple meal, strangers became family. Gratitude flowed both directions. The Kingdom of God felt very near.
None of this would have been possible without you.

Thank you to everyone who supported this trip by attending the Pasta Dinner fundraiser, which raised more than $7,500 for materials. Thank you to those who generously donated supplies that were carried across borders and placed directly into the hands of those who needed them.

You did not simply fund a trip.
You helped pour a foundation.
You helped shape young hearts.
You helped build a home.
You helped create a table where love was shared.

Mission trips change those who go. They also reveal the beauty of a church that sends.
And Covenant sent well.

Fantastic Fridays
Fantastic Fridays are in full swing, and the next two months of events are already planned. Registration is open, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead for connection, fun, and spiritual growth.

These events are more than activities—they are intentional spaces where children build friendships, experience belonging, and encounter the love of Christ in age-appropriate and engaging ways. If you have children or grandchildren who would enjoy being part of these gatherings, be sure to register soon on the church webpage or the Covenant app.  

Nursery Ministry: An Invitation to Serve
As Covenant Church has been growing, so have our nursery numbers. That is something to celebrate.

With that growth comes the opportunity for more of us to serve.

We are looking to build a rotating team of volunteers to support Gretchen each Sunday. Our hope is to create a consistent crew of servants who would each take one week per month in the nursery. This rhythm allows many people to participate without overwhelming any one person.

Caring for our youngest children is not “babysitting.” It is ministry. It is creating a safe, loving space where families can worship knowing their children are cared for well.

Vacation Bible School — July 13-17th (6:00 to 8:30 pm)
It is hard to believe, but we are already preparing for VBS.

An event page has been created in Subsplash, and registration is planned to open on May 1. We want to get ahead this year, both in planning and in building our volunteer team.

Our goal is to hold an early volunteer meeting in March so that we can pray, prepare, and organize well in advance. Once we return from this stretch of winter weather, we will finalize that date and get it on the calendar.

VBS is one of the most significant outreach and discipleship moments of our year. It takes many hands, but it bears lasting fruit.

If you are interested in serving, keep an eye out for the meeting date—and begin considering where you might plug in.

Children’s ministry is not a side ministry. It is foundational. We are helping shape hearts at the earliest stages of faith.

And that is holy work.

Last Sunday we were reminded that God is building a full table.

In Luke 14, the host prepares a banquet and sends servants out with an invitation. The heart of the story is not pressure. It is not strategy. It is not performance. It is generosity.
God actively invites.

And He sends ordinary servants to carry that invitation.

As we reflect on that parable, it’s important to remember how we carry the invitation. Not with pride. Not with argument. Not with anxiety. But with humility, kindness, and love.
We are not salespeople. We are servants.

We are not trying to win debates. We are inviting people to a table.

Scripture tells us to speak the truth in love. That means our posture matters just as much as our words. The gospel is good news, and good news is shared best through relationships marked by patience, gentleness, and sincere care for another’s true good.

To help us take a simple step in carrying that invitation, we have received as a gift over 200+ copies of a small booklet titled The Man on the Middle Cross from the local Christian book distributor 10ofthese.com. There are enough copies for everyone to take one—and to take an extra copy to share with someone else.  They will be available beginning on Ash Wednesday.

This short booklet shares the gospel through three simple stories from the Bible. It is clear, accessible, and centered on Christ.

As you pick up a copy, consider this: Who might the Lord already be placing on your heart? A neighbor? A coworker? A family member? Someone who has asked questions? Someone walking through a difficult season?

You don’t have to force a moment. You don’t have to manufacture a speech. Simply pray, remain attentive, and be ready. Sometimes the most powerful invitations are offered quietly and sincerely.

Small groups have long been one of the most meaningful ways people grow in their faith. In a small group, we are known by name, encouraged in seasons of joy and struggle, and reminded that following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey. At Covenant, we are grateful for the many good groups that gather for fellowship, prayer, study, and mutual care. Each plays an important role in the life of our church.

We currently offer a variety of small groups with different schedules, making it easier to find a group that fits your season of life. In addition, we will be launching new Deep Practice Discipleship Groups on Thursday evenings, meeting after the Thursday Night Bible Study, creating a natural next step for those who want to go deeper.

At the same time, there is unique and significant value in being part of a group that practices Deep Practice Discipleship.

Deep Practice Discipleship goes beyond simply talking about faith—it helps us intentionally live into it. These groups are designed to help participants move from hearing Scripture to practicing the way of Jesus in everyday life. Rather than covering a large amount of material, deep practice groups slow down and focus on a single biblical truth, habit, or calling, allowing it to shape both our thinking and our actions.

In a Deep Practice Discipleship Group, participants:

• Reflect honestly on how they are living out their faith
• Engage deeply with Scripture in a focused and meaningful way
• Practice spiritual habits and Christ-like actions throughout the week
• Encourage and support one another with accountability and grace

The goal is not perfection, but formation—being gradually shaped into people who love God more deeply, love others more faithfully, and live out their calling more intentionally. Over time, small, faithful practices lead to real spiritual growth.

All healthy small groups matter. But a Deep Practice Discipleship Group offers a clear pathway for those who are ready to move beyond discussion into transformation—learning not only what Jesus taught, but how to live as He lived.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to quilt—or dust off skills you haven’t used in a while? Our Sewing & Quilting Group invites you to come be part of a welcoming, creative community where hands are busy and hearts are connected.

Together, we’ll be making quilts and other handmade items that offer comfort, warmth, and care to people in our community. No experience is necessary! We’ll begin at a beginner-friendly level and grow our skills together, one stitch at a time.

This group is about more than fabric and thread—it’s about fellowship, service, and stitching kindness into every quilt we create.

MLK Weekend gives us a meaningful opportunity not only to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but to reflect on how his dream continues to call us—especially as followers of Jesus Christ.

On Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 PM, we invite you to join us at Covenant Church, LaGrange (909 West Jefferson Ave.) for a special MLK Weekend community worship service, hosted together with Centennial Missionary Baptist Church and LaGrange Christian Church.

This will be a warm, intergenerational service, bringing together children, youth, adults, and seniors as one family in Christ. The service will include music, sacred dance, memories of Dr. King’s message, a special children’s message, and a biblical reflection on unity and shared mission in Christ offered by Pastor George Trinn.

Earlier in the day, youth from the three congregations will serve together by preparing care packages for individuals experiencing homelessness, reminding us that unity is not only something we celebrate in worship, but something we live out through shared mission.
Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and desserts, offering a simple and meaningful space to connect, share conversation, and build relationships across congregations.

Our hope for this gathering—under the theme “Dreaming with the Dreamer”—is that we would not only remember Dr. King’s dream, but continue dreaming together as the church, listening for how God is calling us to unity, compassion, and faithful witness in our community.
